UPDATE: In order to offer these workshops to as many rangatahi as possible, Maui & the Movement will be travelling to schools from Kaitaia to Wellington throughout June - July.
Maui & the Movement is an organization founded on the philosophy that young people should not have to choose between their cultural roots, and achieving great things. Instead, they should be encouraged to use the stories of their ancestors to inspire their leadership qualities.
Mission:
To enable rangatahi (youth) to engage in indigenous culture, whilst also further developing their business and leadership skills.
Vision:
To incorporate tikanga (culture) Maori into business leadership workshops, spreading this curriculum across the New Zealand nation to enable rangatahi (youth) to embrace their culture, whilst also pursuing the mahi (work) they want.
ABOUT
STAFF
Christina is originally from Kaitaia, New Zealand. As a young aspiring leader, with Ngapuhi roots, she has often found it hard to juggle her cultural connections with her career aspirations. She was often faced with the choice of embracing her Maori heritage, or pursuing western education. Over the years, she has found that the Maori stories she was taught at a young age have actually influenced her leadership skills more than anything else. Now, she hopes to share that with more rangatahi, so they too can follow their dreams, whilst honoring their ancestors who walked before them.
